It's in the evening of November 25 and heavyhell.com are about to have a talk with IGNEOUS HUMAN, a new acquaintance for us. A while ago an album from a brand new band landed on our doorstep and we were positively surprised by the complexity and great songwriting on "Pyroclastic Storms".

HEAVY HELL: This is a new constellation tell us who are the guys behind the music?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: Well, we are a bunch of happy guys in our best years.

(laughs)

A few of us previously played in the band GAPHIA. We started to record an album five years ago, but that went down the drain, our guitarist at the time wanted to go in a completely different musical direction than the rest of us and the producer. So we ended up in a dark period.

It ended up with that the rest of us decided to start looking for new guitarists. We found a great one in Falköping, Daniel Persson. We found the second one in Trollhättan, Ewo Solvelius and he is one really mean guitarist.

As soon as we had found Ewo we finalized the album. We kept a few songs from the GAPHIA period but most of it was brand new material. The three of us: John Thorner, Mikael Gustavsson and Andreas Joelsson have played together since 2001 you know.

HEAVY HELL: So you were already really tight and had a good picture of your musical direction?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: Well, this band, IGNEOUS HUMAN has very little in common with what we did in GAPHIA.

HEAVY HELL: Who, and how did you come up with the name IGNEOUS HUMAN?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: The music and the band really forged itself during the recoding of the album. IGNEOUS really mean of fire or volcanic, to survive the shit we have been through you really have to be volcanic.

(laughs)

HEAVY HELL: I interpreted it as Man of fire

IGNEOUS HUMAN: Well we really think that it is positive that the name is possible to interpret in many ways and you can say that you have to be made of fire to survive what we have been through.

HEAVY HELL: You seem to have a very consistent image right down to the colors of your website and dirt in your faces. Is it a conscious move to create an image to go with the music?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: Well, everything boils down to "When the world comes to an end IGNEOUS HUMAN will still be standing". This since we have been through the experiences that we have. We live by the motto "That what doesn't kill you will make you stronger".

HEAVY HELL: Have you done the artwork by yourself?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: Some of it is our ideas, some of it is the producer. The idea to have shredded clothes was our own idea.

HEAVY HELL: The album cover has this ribcage exploding incorporated in the artwork

IGNEOUS HUMAN: Yeah exactly, cool isn't it, we think it is spot on. We also have had help from a graphical designer with some of the artwork. We were presented with some ideas and picked the one we liked the best.

HEAVY HELL: Tell us some about the logo?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: It is a heart made out of lava stone.

HEAVY HELL: What can we expect from the live shows? Will you be a mini Rammstein with flame throwers and shit?

(laughs)

IGNEOUS HUMAN: That is a good idea, we will keep that in mind.

HEAVY HELL: This is a fairly new band. Did you start booking a lot of shows or how did you gain momentum around the band that led up to the record deal?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: We found our producer that also has become somewhat of a mentor to us. He is the founder and owner of TRACTOR productions. Thats pretty much the story behind that.

HEAVYHELL: What are the bands influences?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: We like all sorts of different types of music, everything from black metal, stoner right down to Dream Theater and Freak Kitchen.

It's not only our own influences that reflects onto the album but also the influences of our producer. He really is into 70 rock and traditional metal, you know Led Zeppelin and shit.

He really has formed this concept of mixing old school with modern metal to create something new that will attract a wide audience.

HEAVY HELL: The material for the album Pyroclastic Storms, were it laying around or did you write for the album?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: No most of the material has been written for this album.

The high quality of the material on the album is absolutely no coincidence, there is a lot of work behind this album. We have spared no efforts to make this the best album possible.
You know this process has gone on for five years and we have done a lot of things during this time. Hell, we even have become better musicians during this process. The producer really has thrown all limitations to the side only focusing on making good music.

HEAVY HELL: Many bands has the material ready by the time they enter the studio. This since they simply cant' afford the studio cost, but you say that you were actually writing as well during the recording process?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: Sure!

The music has been composed during the recording process in the studio. Our producer has guided us in the process. He really has disregarded all of the traditional clichés surrounding musical styles. We are a metal band and have to play metal, trial and error without any prejudice.

HEAVY HELL: Do you all write together or are a few of the members more active when it comes to songwriting?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: We have been writing together but Classe our producer really has been the main songwriter.

HEAVY HELL: Does that go for the lyrics as well?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: We have written the lyrics together, mainly Andreas and Classe, the singer and our producer has written the lyrics together.

HEAVY HELL: It is an unorthodox situation when the producer writes all the material for a band. All of you have different musical influences and probably want to influence the band musically. Will that cause strain on the band when it's time for the next release?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: When the time comes for the next album everyone surelly will be welcome to write for it, right now we are really proud of this album. It is a damn good album!

(laughs)

HEAVY HELL: The album has been recorded in traditional manner. Rhythm section with Drums and Bass first , the guitars and lastly the singing?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: This album really is recorded in traditional manner and that is special in its own right. It is probably is the first album recorded without any samples since 1986.
There has been a massive work going into the recording. We used a lot of different drum kits, like four or five kits and three of them went onto the album.

HEAVY HELL: Is there a tour upcoming?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: Sure, we are planning tour to tour but nothing that we can reveal right now

HEAVY HELL: Were will the album be released, do you have distribution on Scandinavia or?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: We have a world wide distribution deal

HEAVY HELL: That's cool so you might end up in South America doing promotion?

(laughs)

IGNEOUS HUMAN: Hopefully, we are really proud of how things have turned out. We will be in your city before you know.

HEAVY HELL: The last track on the album is a great track but it is so different from the rest of the album. What went on with that track?

IGNEOUS HUMAN: It really is an improvisation with the producer and one guitarists. It really was like heavyhell wrote in the review, the song is very different but it turned out to good to throw away. Nothing is sequenced, it is two takes of keyboard and two takes guitar, nothing else. You can even hear some words that leaked onto the recording, really organic.

We really want to stress the fact that there is a lot of different influences on the album that makes it really great and available for a wide audience. Even my fifty year old aunt sent me an SMS telling me how great the album is.

HEAVY HELL: "Pyroclastic Storms" is a hard album but at the same time it is melodic, that makes an interesting combination.

IGNEOUS HUMAN: We use to say that our music is the hardest Rock ever, it is hard "Hard Rock"

Make sure that you check out the IGNEOUS HUMAN album "Pyroclastic Storms" they surely are destined for big things.
