Amaranthe has a lot going for them, over the last three years they haven't released anything but a self-financed EP. Now the big wheels spin like never before.
It has been said that Jake E. Lundberg and Olof Mörck set out to do a Swedish Avantasia morph with the project Amaranthe but truly Amaranthe is absolutely nothing like Avantasia. In fact Amaranthe resemble Avantasia as much as Phenomena or Les Schtroumpfs for that one. Amaranthe is a highly commercial band that mixes just anything that is easy to digest for a teenage audience.
Amaranthe has gone one step further with the vocal duties. The standard two singer recipe has been extended to a third singer. The production is polished to the max and the overall performance is great. It is a huge benefit to have three singers and the different flavors are used richly throughout. The mix is tight but not overcrowded with sounds.
It is no secret that Amaranthe is highly dependant of the female singer Elize Ryd. Elize has studied at the Performance Art School in Gothenburg and worked at the Cabaret Lorensberg were she has forged her style singing in Musicals. She was also tapped as support vocalist on the American power metal band Kamelot's latest tour which is quite an honor. The two singers that usually help Kamelot out is no less than Simone Simons and Amanda Somerville.
But as far as it goes for Amaranthe, this is nothing but and easy digestible average stew with a few nice twists. There is a distinct lack of own grips. It simply is impossible to distinguish Amaranthe from any other band out there.
There are a few decent tracks on the album and with a little bit of luck they might end up on the mainstream radio in a few nations.
But this is just too much Eurovision song contest for our taste.
Welcome maggot you are awaited.
Hi there, things are shifting around ever so slowly here at Heavy Hell, we do what we want in the pace we feel is appropriate.
Lately we have migrated the entire site to a brand new code platform, This will allow us to do awesome things that up until now have been utterly impossible. The bad thing is that the news updates will be random at best for a while.
